PRESENTATION

CREATED in 1972, THE BCGE TOUR DU LÉMAN À L’AVIRON IS THE LONGEST ENCLOSED BASIN AVIRONING REGATE IN THE WORLD.

The Tour du Léman is an international rowing endurance competition organized at the end of September by the Société Nautique de Genève’s rowing section, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning from the Port Noir’s North Pier. The first Tour took place in 1972, the centenary year of the organizing club, making it one of the oldest long-distance competitions.

The “Tour du Léman à la rome” consists of rowing non-stop and unaided from Geneva to Geneva, after circumnavigating Lake Geneva in a clockwise direction and passing through all the checkpoints.

With its 160 km course, this internationally renowned competition is the world’s longest non-stop rowing event in a closed basin, and has been described by some connoisseurs as the “heimliche Weltmeisterschaft” of long-distance events. The race lasts between 12 and 17 hours, depending on weather conditions, boat equipment and crew level.
